Plenty of Quality in Prime Minister’s Cup 2012 Nominations

A total of 27 horses have been included in nominations for the Listed $175,000 2012 Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) which is set to take place at the Gold Coast this Saturday.

One of the top nominations is Robert Heathcote-trained mare Fillydelphia but it is uncertain whether she will line up after also being nominated for the Silk Stocking.

The talented five-year-old has eight wins from 23 starts and showed promise first-up when running fourth at Eagle Farm on April 21 after a successful spring campaign.

From six starts in the spring, Fillydelphia recorded victory three times and placed on the other three occasions.

Six-year-old gelding Border Rebel has a chance to bounce back from a horrific effort last start when he finished last in the Group 1 Galaxy at Randwick.

The Sue Grills-trained horse should appreciate a drop back in class as he boasts an impressive resume of 14 wins from 27 starts including three times at Listed level.

Peter Moody-trained mare Mid Summer Music should also enjoy the drop back in class after racing against some of the best in recent times.

The six-year-old ran third to Black Caviar in last year’s Patinack Farm Classic and in 2012 ran seventh in the William Reid Stakes before finishing runner-up to Atlantic Jewel in the Sapphire Stakes.

Also included in nominations is Spirit Of Boom who showed plenty of promise in January when he recorded back-to-back victories at Listed level on the Gold Coast.

Trained by Tony Gollan, the four-year-old is a half brother to Gollan’s stable star Temple Of Boom and has a reasonable record of six wins from 24 starts.

The Prime Minister’s Cup takes place as a key support race on Saturday’s Gold Coast card that is highlighted by the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes.

Other horses nominated for the Prime Minister’s Cup include Peter Snowden mare Parables and local gelding Celtic Dancer.

Head to later in the week to get all the best odds on this weekend’s Gold Coast meeting.

Home of the $300 bonus bet, is fully Australian owned and has a sensational range of racing products.
