Plenty of Quality in Prime Minister’s Cup 2012 Nominations

A total of 27 horses have been included in nominations for the Listed $175,000 2012 Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) which is set to take place at the Gold Coast this Saturday.

One of the top nominations is Robert Heathcote-trained mare Fillydelphia but it is uncertain whether she will line up after also being nominated for the Silk Stocking.

The talented five-year-old has eight wins from 23 starts and showed promise first-up when running fourth at Eagle Farm on April 21 after a successful spring campaign.

From six starts in the spring, Fillydelphia recorded victory three times and placed on the other three occasions.

Six-year-old gelding Border Rebel has a chance to bounce back from a horrific effort last start when he finished last in the Group 1 Galaxy at Randwick.

The Sue Grills-trained horse should appreciate a drop back in class as he boasts an impressive resume of 14 wins from 27 starts including three times at Listed level.

Peter Moody-trained mare Mid Summer Music should also enjoy the drop back in class after racing against some of the best in recent times.

The six-year-old ran third to Black Caviar in last year’s Patinack Farm Classic and in 2012 ran seventh in the William Reid Stakes before finishing runner-up to Atlantic Jewel in the Sapphire Stakes.

Also included in nominations is Spirit Of Boom who showed plenty of promise in January when he recorded back-to-back victories at Listed level on the Gold Coast.

Trained by Tony Gollan, the four-year-old is a half brother to Gollan’s stable star Temple Of Boom and has a reasonable record of six wins from 24 starts.

The Prime Minister’s Cup takes place as a key support race on Saturday’s Gold Coast card that is highlighted by the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes.

Other horses nominated for the Prime Minister’s Cup include Peter Snowden mare Parables and local gelding Celtic Dancer.
