Invest 2012 Queensland Oaks Bound

Clarry Conners’ surprise Schweppes Australasian Oaks winning filly Invest has been confirmed as targeting the Queensland Oaks 2012 this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Invest

Schweppes Oaks winner Invest will target the 2012 Queensland Oaks next month

The improving daughter of Dehere out of Zabeel mare Unearthly, winner of the 2003 Flight Stakes, proved her potential as a stayer to watch when she beat home a crack field to win the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville last Saturday, the victory Conners’ first Group 1 success in five years.

“It was a pretty exciting day all round,” Conners said of Schweppes Oaks Day where glamour mare Black Caviar posted her 20th consecutive career victory in the Robert Sangster Stakes.

“It was a big thrill to win a Group One. It’s hard to do.

“The last one we had was Apercu (2007) in the TJ Smith in Brisbane.

“Hopefully it’s back to the golden days and the start of more to come.”

Prepared in Sydney Invest is now set for more interstate travel heading up to the sunshine state for the $400,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday June 2.

She will firstly stop home in New South Wales and before contesting the next major Queensland Oaks lead-up race, the $175,000 Group 3 The Roses (2020m) at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday May 19.

“Invest is on her way home and then she’ll head to Brisbane for the Doomben Roses in three weeks and the Queensland Oaks,” Conners confirmed.

Scarlett Lady was successful in winning The Doomben Roses – Queensland Oaks double last year, while Oaks runner-up Becerra also came via The Roses having run a good fourth.

Invest was one of six late entries into the 2012 Queensland Oaks nominations.

Other Queensland Oaks nominated fillies coming via the Schweppes Oaks include the Michael Kent-trained Our Miss Jones (2nd), John Sargent’s New Zealand raider Kasumi (5th), and Michael Moroney’s Crimson Lady (6th).

Following the 2012 The Roses, Queensland Oaks first acceptances will be taken on Wednesday May 23.

The 2012 Queensland Oaks field of final acceptors is then due to be released on May 30, Races.com.au to keep readers up to date with all the latest.
