Buffering Leads Early BTC Cup 2012 Betting Market

Queensland sprinter Buffering is the early favourite ahead of Saturday week’s Group 1 2012 BTC Cup (1200m) which will take place at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse.

Queensland sprinter Buffering is the early favourite for the Group 1 BTC Cup

Trained by Brisbane’s Robert Heathcote, Buffering placed third in last year’s feature sprint but has opened as $3.60 bookmaker.com.au favourite with 2011 stars Black Caviar and Hay List absent.

Punters will get an early look into the Mossman gelding’s form on Wednesday when he runs in the rescheduled Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm which was abandoned on Saturday due to wet weather.

He is trailed in the betting by Rain Affair (6.00) but the Sydney star is unlikely to make the trip north following a tough autumn campaign.

Next best in the betting are Lohnro gelding Pinwheel and talented filly Sea Siren who both sit at $9.00.

Three-year-old Sea Siren has been particularly impressive in her young career, winning three of five starts and placing on two other occasions.

Last year’s Doomben 10,000 winner and Stradbroke Handicap runner-up Beaded will return to Brisbane in 2012 and is paying $11.00 to begin her carnival with a bang and win the opening elite level event.

The Lohnro mare has experienced indifferent form this year, starting with a runner-up finish in the NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic before finishing a disappointing 11th in the Newmarket Handicap and fifth in the William Reid Stakes.

Recent Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom has opened at $12.00 and could provide excellent value if Brisbane’s recent wet weather hangs around for the next two weeks.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding proved he could mix it at the top level when taking out the Galaxy by a length and is joined by half brother Spirit Of Boom ($41.00) in the early market for the feature sprint.

If the four-year-old is named in the final field next week it will be his first race at Group 1 level after impressing with victories at Listed level earlier this year.

Other horses to feature in the preliminary BTC Cup betting market include talented Gai Waterhouse gelding Nobby Snip ($13.00), Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim ($14.00) and regular Group 1 starter Hurtle Myrtle ($21.00).
