Betting for the 2018 Group 1 $700,000 Altus...
After last Saturday’s Eagle Farm meeting was a washout Racing Queensland rescheduled the day’s two features including the 2012 Gunsynd Classic for this Wednesday, the Peter Moody-trained Brambles retaining his favouritism for the three-year-olds’ clash.
Due to run as Eagle Farm Race 7 at 3:02pm on Wednesday the rescheduled $125,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m) field is now at 17 starters.
Horses missing from the original field are Purfectress, Rocket Boots and Pretty Pins.
These defectors have paved the way for original emergency Vortex to gain a start on Wednesday.
Howard Wilson’s improving Reset filly however remains the $101 roughie in the Gunsynd Classic odds at bookmaker.com.au.
While the field remains very similar the Gunsynd Classic barriers were redrawn and that has had an impact on the betting markets.
Last week Brambles opened the $3.50 favourite and they remain the top elect now into a much shorter $2.60.
Due to jump from barrier 10 the Savabeel gelding was last seen running fourth to Fat Al in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m), the Melbourne miler having won two other races over the 1600-metres last November.
With the John Thompson-trained Pretty Pins out of the race, the Pins filly instead heading to the Gold Coast on Saturday for the $125,000 Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m), there are now just two other single-figure chances in the Gunsynd Classic betting markets.
Second pick at a quote of $3.50 is Trump in barrier seven.
Rob Heathcote’s local Written Tycoon gelding comes off a close second behind Morning Captain in the Listed National Jockey Celebration Queensland Day Handicap (1350m) from April 14 and should be prime third-up as they go up in distance.
Trump is followed by the John Sargent-trained Kiwi galloper Quintessential at $5.50.
Jumping from a wide barrier 16 draw with Chris Munce engaged for the ride the Fast ‘n’ Famous filly debuts down under in the Gunsynd following a number of eye-catching wins and placings in her native New Zealand.
Quintessential was last seen running third to Artistic in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) on March 17 but she also has winning form over the mile having taken out the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes over the distance back in January.
Two more hopefuls are currently under $20 in the latest markets with $13 chance Jack’s Back from Toowoomba in barrier six who will relish coming back from 59kg they carried to a big seven length win over 1500m at their home track last Saturday to 57kg on Wednesday, and Heathcote’s other hopeful Vacallo who is the market mover into $19.
Thorn park gelding Vacallo is out for their third win on the trot following good wins at the Gold Coast and then Doomben over the past month.
