Angel Of Mercy Heads 2012 Gold Coast Bracelet Nominations

Gerald Ryan’s stakes winning filly Angel Of Mercy is set to back up from her black type victory on Sydney Cup Day with a run in the Gold Coast Bracelet 2012 in Queensland this Saturday.

Angel Of Mercy

Sydney Cup Day winner Angel Of Mercy could back up in the 2012 Gold Coast Bracelet this Saturday

The smart daughter of Hussonet scored an upset win in the Listed James HB Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last Saturday with Craig Williams aboard, her Rosehill-based trainer Ryan now seriously considering running her again this weekend in the $125,000 Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).

“She may back-up in the Gold Coast Bracelet over 1800-metres next Saturday,” Ryan said earlier in the week.

A total of 32 three-year-old fillies were nominated for this year’s edition of the Gold Coast Bracelet, the race won 12 months ago by the Peter Snowden-trained Divorces.

The Gold Coast Bracelet is the first official Queensland Winter Racing Carnival lead-up for fillies heading towards a run in the prestigious $400,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 2.

Sandwiched in between the Bracelet and the Oaks is also the $175,000 Group 3 The Roses (2020m) at Doomben on May 19.

Last year’s Gold Coast Bracelet winner Divorces went on to run third behind Scarlett Lady in The Roses and fourth again behind Scarlet Lady in the Oaks.

If accepted Saturday will be Angel Of Mercy’s first look at the 1800-metres, and it is the Queensland Oaks 2012 that Ryan has his eye on for her.

“I’ve been training her to run a mile, a mile-and-a-quarter and I’d like to have a crack at the Queensland Oaks,” he said.

The other big name Gold Coast Bracelet nominee is then Shaune Ritchie’s Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Artistic.

The daughter of Darci Brahma won the Listed Sunline Vase (2100m) two back before holding on in a tight finish when stepping up to the 2400m in the NZ Oaks.

John Sargent’s New Zealand Oaks third placegetter Quintessential also features in the Gold Coast Bracelet early entries for 2012.

The other top-rated Gold Coast Bracelet nominations include then the John Thompson-trained Pretty Pins who has won four of her eight starts to date including a summer feature over 2020m on a Slow track at Doomben last December, Matthew Dunn’s Princess Stakes winner over the Eagle Farm mile last time out Hidden Jewel, and Tracey Bartley’s Wyong visitor Meghalaya coming off a good third in the Listed National Jockey Celebration QLD Day Handicap (1350m).

The 2012 H Harvey Prestige Gold Coast Bracelet final field and barrier draw will be released on Wednesday and published right here at along with a detailed race and betting preview.
