Shez Sinsational heads Hollindale Stakes Nominations for Saturday, May 5

Auckland Cup winner Shez Sinsational heads the nominations for the Group 2 $300,000 Gold Coast Turf Club A D Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday, May 5.

The Hollindale Stakes has attracted twenty-one entries which include Brambles and the 2011 Schweppes Oaks winner Lights Of Heaven from the powerful Peter Moody stable and Foreteller for Sydney trainer Chris Waller.

Dual Doomben Cup winner Scenic Shot will be looking to secure his second Hollindale Stakes after taking out the Group 2 weight for age race in 2008 with Glen Colless aboard.

The nine year old has started off this preparation slowly but showed glimpses of regaining his best form with a an eye catching third to Ginga Dude and Triple Honour in the Listed Spotless Members Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm on April 21.

Those three are set to clash again in the Hollindale Stakes on Saturday.

Waller is aiming to win his third Hollindale Stakes in succession with Foreteller following wins with Metal Bender in 2010 and last year’s winner My Kingdom Of Fife.

“Foreteller is the only definite horse I’ll have at the Gold Coast at this stage,” Waller said.

“He’s being aimed for the Doomben Cup but I want to see how he goes in the Hollindale first.”

The imported gelding is fitter for two runs from a spell and showed improvement at his second run back when sixth to Fast Clip in the Group 3 $125,000 BMW Doncaster Mile Prelude (1600m) at Randwick on April 14.

“I thought it was quite a good run in the Prelude,” he said.

Kiwi mare Shez Sinsational had a short break after winning the Group 1 NZ$500,000 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Elllerslie on March 7 and then came out and won first up over 1400m at Tauranga in the Stewart Browne Group Handicap on April 21.

Oppie Bosson will fly in from Singapore to replace James McDonald on the four year old who’s other Group 1 victories were the NZ$200,000 Darci Brahma International Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa on February 11 and the NZ$200,000 Harcourts Thorndon Mile (1600m) at Trentham on January 28.

The Barry Baldwin trained Mr Light Blue is Queensland’s local hope and the grey will be better suited over the 1800m after finding the 1600m too short at this stage of his preparation when tenth to Ginga Dude at Eagle Farm on April 21.
