Eagle Farm rescheduled races for Wednesday May 2

Racing Queensland Limited reacted quickly to last Saturday’s abandonment of the Eagle Farm race meeting due to the heavy rain on Friday night and Saturday morning with the rescheduling of the two main feature races on the program to Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Fresh nominations were called for on Monday morning for the Group 3 $125,000 MacArthur Museum Brisbane Gunsynd Classic (1600m) and the Group 2 $175,000 Coca-Cola Amatil Victory Stakes (1200m) has been replaced with a $100,000 1200m weight for age race.

Racing Queensland also made program changes to several other South East Queensland meetings to help accommodate trainers who had horses miss runs on Saturday.

A 1200m $10,000 Two Year Old Handicap with QTIS and QTIS 600 bonuses has been added to the Sunshine Coast program on Friday, May 4 as well as two extra races for the Gold Coast on Saturday, May 5.

The changes at The Gold Coast are the Benchmark 90 2200m has been amended to an Open Handicap while a $50,000 1200m Benchmark 90 has been added to the meeting.

And Saturday’s May 5 Ipswich meeting has had the prizemoney for the 1666m Benchmark 85 increased to $45,000 plus the addition of an 1100m $10,000 Two Year Old Maiden Handicap with QTIS and QTIS 600 bonuses attached.

Premiership trainer Robert Heathcote and rival trainer Desleigh Forster applauded Racing Queensland for their quick decision on the rescheduling and amendments after both trainers missed runs with their Winter Carnival aspirants in the Victory Stakes.

Heathcote and Forster are now assured of a lead up run for Buffering and Adebisi heading into the Group 1 $400,000 Smirnoff BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 12.

“It’s fantastic news this race will be on Wednesday,” Heathcote said.

“Had we lost the Victory Stakes, Buffering would have gone into the BTC Cup without having a run for almost to six weeks.”

Forster was just as supportive and is happy to send Adebisi around mid week.

“I would have had to barrier trial him at some point but with the race on Wednesday there’s still 10 days before the BTC Cup.”

The rescheduled 1200m weight for age race still carries the same sponsor’s name, Coca-Cola Amatil with prizemoney of $100,000 and has attracted a field of six.

The Tony Gollan trained Spirit Of Boom is a noted absentee while Heathcote has also nominated  Captain Clayton and the Gordon Yorke trained Moneysaver has been added to the new field.

Buffering, who is coming off three Group 1 placings from the Melbourne Autumn Carnival behind Black Caviar, Hay List and Foxwedge has drawn barrier two with Jim Byrne to ride and last start Bribie Handicap winner Adebisi has drawn the outside off the six horse field with Chris Munce aboard.

Heathcote is also happy to have his three year olds Trump and Vacallo going around in the Gunsynd Classic on Wednesday.
