Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Outside chance Invest has produced a sensational effort over 2000 metres to deliver an upset victory in the Group 1 2012 Australasian Oaks at Morphetville.
It was a sensational effort from the Dehere filly who finished strongly to take the lead at the top of the straight to finish just ahead of Our Miss Jones and Essence.
Essence tried gallantly to hold on after setting the pace for almost the entire race in an event that was run at a good tempo.
It was the first Group 1 victory in Adelaide for trainer Clarry Connors and he was delighted with the result.
“She’s a good filly. This is what we aimed for a long time,” Connors said.
“She can stay. She’ll go a bit further as well I think.”
Peter Mertens rode the three-year-old in excellent fashion and was happy to draw the inside barrier after having some tough runs with her in the past.
“She’s always sort of drawn bad gates and been a bit vulnerable. Today she got a nice easy run and really finished it off,” Mertens said.
It marks just the second win of the career for Invest who delighted a few brave punters after starting at $14.00.
Heavily backed race favourite Empress Rock got into a good position early just behind the lead but was unable to capitalise and finish off the race.
