Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Race favourite Fat Al has continued his excellent run of form, producing a fourth consecutive victory in the Group 3 $125,000 2012 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Royal Randwick today.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding got out of the gates quickly and was able to lead for the entire race in his first start at 2000 metres, finishing more than a length in front of Ambidexter and Rekindled Alliance.
Now a winner of five of seven starts, the Al Maher three-year-old was ridden beautifully by Nash Rawiller who allowed him to sit at the front of the field at his own pace before he showed a nice turn of foot as Ambidexter came hard in the final straight.
Leading trainer Waterhouse confirmed the talented youngster would head to Queensland for the Brisbane Winter Carnival where he has been nominated for the Queensland Derby.
“He’s already bought his air ticket on his frequent flyer points,” Waterhouse said.
Waterhouse was pleased with the son of Al Maher who stepped up in both distance and class today.
“The way he stepped up in distance and class, he took control of the race. It looked like a leisurely affair,” Waterhouse said.
“A beautiful son of Al Maher. Gosh he’s a gorgeous horse.”
It marks the end of a highly successful autumn campaign for Fat Al who previously won the Albury Guineas and the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes.
Next at Randwick is the beginning of the Group 1 races which will see Pierro look to continue his unbeaten streak so head to bookmaker.com.au to back a winner!
