Eagle Farm Saturday Racing Abandoned – 28/04/2012

Today’s Eagle Farm(TAB) meeting in Brisbane has been abandoned due to inclement weather and the state of the track on the course proper.

Buffering was to resume racing in the 2012 Victory Stakes before the Eagle Farm meeting was cancelled today

Heavy rain has been falling over Brisbane and surrounding areas over the past 24 hours and the continuing wet weather saw Eagle Farm downgraded past a Heavy (10) rating.

A track inspection from Racing Queensland chief steward Wade Birch at 8:00am (local time) this morning saw him declare the surface unsafe for racing.

“The track has received around 50 millimetres of rain since it started last night about seven o’clock,” Birch said.

“There was a lot of surface water around the track but there was a bad section covered with water at the 1100 metres.”

Two Group race features were scheduled to run at Eagle Farm today with the $157,000 Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) and the $125,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m).

The 2012 Victory Stakes was to be the next start for Rob Heathcote’s multiple Group 1 placegetter Buffering while the Gunsynd Classic field was already at half of the original acceptors before the cancellation due to scratchings.

A decision from Racing Queensland as to whether the races will be rescheduled is pending, the Victory Stakes especially forming a key lead-up for gallopers like Buffering heading into the 2012 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

UPDATE: Racing Queensland has announced that the Gunsynd Classic and a weight-for-age over 1200m worth $100,000 will be added to the Eagle Farm program on Wednesday May 2, 2012. New nominations and acceptances will close on Monday April 30.

While Eagle Farm may be off the cards today punters still have plenty of action to enjoy a punt on through bookmaker.com.au.

In Sydney the final meeting of the Royal Randwick Carnival takes place with Sydney Cup Day to host four Group 1 features including the days’ namesake race, the $500,000 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).

Over in Adelaide the racing is also top notch today with champion mare Black Caviar to shoot for her 20th straight turf triumph in Morphettville’s $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).
