Black Caviar Ready to Fire – Robert Sangster Stakes 2012

The day has finally arrived. Superstar mare Black Caviar will today attempt to score a 20th straight win and eclipse the Australiasian record for consecutive victories she currently shares with Desert Gold and Gloaming when she lines up in the 2012 Robert Sangster Stakes.

Black Caviar is ready to fire in today's Robert Sangster Stakes

She had a final hit-out at Caulfield on Tuesday morning and yesterday arrived in the South Australian capital ready to race.

Peter Moody said the wonder mare was slightly above optimal weight but her fitness was good, with the leading trainer leaving improvement in her ahead of June’s targeted Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

“She’s a bit above her peak racing weight but you’d expect her to be ahead of a couple of runs here before she heads overseas,” he said.

“She’s got nice improvement in her. I don’t take so much of a guide on her weight but how she is in the wind and how she pulls up and how much of a blow she has post-work.

“For a big filly she surprisingly doesn’t blow up and pull up big and really heave after a race, she’s a pretty good athlete.”

Currently paying $1.04 at to beat her nine rivals in the Robert Sangster Stakes, the five-year-old will also record a 10th Group victory if she does as expected and wins today.

Her nearest rival in the $400,000 Adelaide feature is Lone Rock who is coming off a fourth-place effort in the William Reid Stakes.

The Fastnet Rock four-year-old is the only other Group 1 winner in the race, having taken top honours in last year’s Goodwood Handicap.

The crowds have already begun flocking to Morphetville this morning with a capacity 30,000 expected to fill the course by the start of the race day.

Black Caviar’s Robert Sangster Stakes will run as the seventh on the Morphetville card and will jump at 4:23pm (AEST).

While Black Caviar may not be much of a betting proposition, there is plenty of other quality racing in both Adelaide and Sydney today so head to to back a winner!

Home of the $300 bonus bet, the Australian owned bookie is offering sensational prices on all this weekend’s top racing!
