Duric’s Crucial 2012 Australasian Oaks Ride

Vlad Duric is eyeing a Group 1 victory at Morphettville this weekend the former Caulfield Cup winning hoop confident he is on the right three-year-old filly with Crucial for this year’s Schweppes Australasian Oaks 2012.

Black Caviar will be the main attraction at Morphettville on Saturday

Anthony Freedman’s improving Nadeem filly Crucial is one of the capacity number of acceptors for the $400,000 Group 1 Schwepeps Australasian Oaks (2000m) which is due to run as Morphettville Race 5 at 2:35pm on Saturday.

Drawn in barrier 10, coming into nine with the four emergencies out, Crucial is one of five chances in the race under double figures in the latest Schweppes Oaks odds at bookmaker.com.au.

Markets are led by Bart Cummings’ multiple Group 2 winning daughter of Fastnet Rock, Empress Rock, drawn one inside of Crucial and paying $4 for the win.

Crucial however got the better of Empress Rock and a number of her other Oaks rivals last start when she won the Group 3 Scweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at the track on April 14.

For the Schweppervescence win Crucial jumped from the extreme outside barrier 16 of 16, and she is sure to appreciate the easier run on Saturday.

For that race however Crucial carried only 54.5kg with Duric, who won the 2007 Caulfield Cup with Mast O’Reilly, aboard and she goes up to 56kg for the Schweppes Oaks.

Empress Rock meanwhile carted a hefty 58.5kg for the Schweppervescence and having been beaten only a length and a half by Crucial there, will relish meeting her equal in the weights on Saturday.

Still Duric, who has only been back in Australia for two months after a long stint in Singapore, believes Crucial, an $8 Australasian Oaks chance, has the class to get the job done.

Duric is also looking forward to seeing Morphettville’s main attraction on Saturday in the flesh with Australia’s racing queen Black Caviar running in the 2012 Robert Sangster Stakes.

“I’m sure I’ll walk out to the mounting yard and have a look at her walk around,” Duric said of Black Caviar.

“Apparently it’s sold out over there so it should be a good day of racing.

“I’ve got some nice rides in Adelaide for Anthony this weekend so I’m hoping something comes out of those as well.

“It’s my biggest day coming up since I’ve been back.”
