Seven Named in All Aged Stakes 2012 Final Field

A small but quality lineup of horses have been named to contest the Group 1 2012 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday.

Atlantic Jewel

Star filly Atlantic Jewel will take on older opponents in the All Aged Stakes

Headlining the list is superstar filly Atlantic Jewel who will take on a host of well-credentialed older horses in the $400,000 weight-for-age event.

The Fastnet Rock three-year-old returned from injury in fine style on April 14 when winning the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes by four lengths.

Trained by Mark Kavanagh, Atlantic Jewel is unbeaten from six starts but faces an interesting test this Saturday when running from the inside barrier with regular jockey Michael Rodd on board.

She comes up against some high quality challengers including seven-year-old gelding King Mufhasa who has shown he can still match it with the elite.

A winner of nine Group 1 races, the Stephen McKee-trained horse was a dominant winner in February’s Futurity Stakes and then finished a respectable fourth in a tight finish in the George Ryder Stakes.

Sydney sprinter Rain Affair is still chasing an elusive Group 1 victory after missing out by a head when favourite in the TJ Smith Stakes to Master Of Design on April 14.

The Joseph Pride-trained four-year-old boasts an impressive resume of 11 wins from 14 starts but also failed in his other Group 1 start when sixth in the Newmarket Handicap.

Outside of Atlantic Jewel, there is only one female in the race, with Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican set to be ridden by Kathy O’Hara from barrier four.

It will be the last run of the five-year-old mare’s campaign and trainer Ron Quinton believes she is ready to produce a good performance.

“We’ve sort of planned all along to make this her last run of the campaign,” Quinton said.

“Naturally it’s stiff opposition but I think she’ll run a nice race.”

Also set to line up in the All Aged Stakes are two-time Group 1 winner Albert The Fat and New Zealand gelding Centennial Park.
