SA Chairman’s Stakes 2012 Final Field & Barriers

This Saturday Adelaide’s Morphettville Racecourse will host their biggest day in history with Black Caviar coming to town, another of the Group features on a crack eight race card being the 2012 SA Chairman’s Stakes.

Mark Kavanagh

Mark Kavanagh will look for back-to-back wins in the 2012 Chairman's Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday

A final field of 16 starters plus one emergency has been accepted for this year’s edition of the $115,000 Group 3 SA Chairman’s Stakes (2000m) which is due to run as Morphettville Race 6 at 3:15pm, one event before the mighty Black Caviar shoots for her 20th consecutive career win in the Robert Sangster Stakes 2012.

Sitting at the top of the Chairman’s Stakes field with the No. 1 saddlecloth is the Anthony Freedman-trained Cornell.

Drawn in gate eight with Vlad Duric to ride the Elusive Quality gelding is out for their third straight win of the season, Duric aboard for both of their autumn successes so far.

Last seen putting a good two and a half lengths on their closest rival Meshamker in the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) at the track on April 14, Cornell is also likely to open favourite in the Chairman’s Stakes odds at once they’re released.

Freedman will also be represented in the Chairman’s Stakes field on Saturday by Crystalised with
Daniel Moor to ride them from the inside alley.

The progressive Zabeel filly is beautifully bred and bursting with potential, but she has only ever raced over 1700-metres and is yet to see the track.

Still her pedigree says she will love the distance and she is sure to be well liked in the markets.

The horses that finished two-three behind Cornell in the Port Adelaide Guineas last start have also both been accepted for the Chairman’s on Saturday.

Runner-up Meshmaker from the stables of Sam Kavanagh has suffered an early blow drawing wide in barrier 16 while third placed Banner should get a gun run from barrier five with Jason Holder to ride the Matt Laurie-trained youngster.

The only other last start winner in the field aside from Cornell is then the Robbie Laing-trained Frisky No More coming off a narrow 1400m victory at Cranbourne who has drawn nicely in barrier four with Mark Zahra engaged.

Laing has also accepted for Heaven’s Riches and Rock Musician drawn in barriers 10 and seven respectively.

Hussonet colt Rock Musician will be ridden by Glen Boss on Saturday, the perennial placegetter coming off three seconds most recently over 2080-metres at Cranbourne on April 13.

Mark Kavanagh meanwhile will look for back-to-back wins following the victory of Kittens last year having accepted for Hammer Time, a likely roughie in the markets drawn in gate two.
