Queen Of The South Stakes 2012 – Final Field and Barriers

While all the hype in Adelaide this week is about Black Caviar’s attempt at 20 straight wins in the Robert Sangster Stakes, there is plenty of other quality racing in the South Australian capital including the 2012 Queen Of The South Stakes.

The $175,000 Group 2 event will see 12 fillies and mares line up over 1600 metres in the fourth race of the day at Morphetville.

One of the headline acts is Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Booklet who will be ridden by Glen Boss from barrier eight.

The four-year-old mare has been in reasonable form this year, beginning with a third-place effort in the Group 3 PFD Food Services Stakes and again placing in the Muscular Dystrophy Plate at Flemington last start.

She comes up against Echuca Cup winner Zubbaya who has shown promise with five wins from 15 starts but has struggled in her four efforts at Group level racing.

Arena mare Little House may be inexperienced and facing a step up this weekend but nobody can deny her form of five wins from six starts.

Trained by Mark Minervini, the four-year-old suffered her only hiccup when fourth in the Matrice Stakes in late March but bounced back in her last start to win the Projections Graphics Handicap by nearly a length.

Other horses included in the Queen Of The South Stakes field are Gai Waterhouse mare Upon This Rock who is coming off a last-start victory and Projections Graphics Handicap runner-up Bowerbird.

The Queen Of The South Stakes will jump as the fourth race on the Morphetville card this weekend and is a key support event for the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes and the Australasian Oaks.

A sell-out crowd of approximately 30,000 people are expected to flock to the Adelaide track this weekend to see wonder mare Black Caviar attempt to score a 20th straight victory and an Australasian record.

The betting is already open on the Robert Sangster Stakes and the Oaks with the other races not too far away, so be sure to visit bookmaker.com.au to back your winners.

There has never been a better time to open an account with the Australian owned bookie who are currently offering a $300 bonus bet to first-time depositing customers!
