Empancipation Stakes 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

New Zealand five-year-old Miss Keepsake headlines a 12-horse field that will contest the Group 2 2012 Emancipation Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick this Saturday.

The Group 1 winning mare will carry the topweight (57.5kg) along with Mirjulisa Lass in the female only event worth $175,000.

A former Group 1 winner, Miss Keepsake will be out to build on a promising autumn which has seen her win first-up at Kembla Grange and run second to More Joyous in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

Mirjulisa Lass is another in the field to taste elite level victory but recently she has been along way from the form that saw her win the 2011 Vinery Stakes.

From three starts this year, the Gregory Hickman-trained four-year-old has only been able to manage a best of 10th which comes on the back a spring campaign where she also produced three back-field finishes.

One horse coming into the race with form on the board this year is Tim Martin-trained mare Fibrillation who is chasing a third consecutive victory.

The daughter of Diatribe impressed first-up with a win in the Aspiration Quality on March 17 and stepped up again two weeks later to win by a length in the Group 3 Epona Stakes.

It was by far the four-year-old’s best victory of her career to date and she has the chance to go one better this Saturday when ridden by Brenton Advulla from barrier three.

Starcraft mare Crafty Irna finished runner-up to Fibrillation in the Epona Stakes and she has a chance to avenge her defeat this weekend.

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman will be on board the Ron Quintion-trained horse who is chasing a second Group level victory after winning last year’s Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes.

Leading Sydney trainer Guy Walter has three horses lining up with Skyerush, Foxstar and Brightest while Peter Snowden has two with Shannara and Divorces.

Shortly the bookmaker.com.au market will open for the Sydney racing action this weekend, so sign up quickly to ensure you have access to the best odds.
