Superstar filly Atlantic Jewel has been confirmed as a starter for the $400,000 Group 1 2012 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday.
The unbeaten three-year-old had also been nominated for the female only Emancipation Stakes (1600m) but trainer Mark Kavanagh confirmed earlier this week she would take on some highly rated males in the weight-for-age All Aged Stakes.
Atlantic Jewel made an emphatic return to racing on April 14 after being sidelined for several months with injury.
The Fastnet Rock filly made it clear the injury concerns were well in the past when she dominated the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes field by four lengths at Randwick.
She comes up against far tougher opposition this Saturday, with the likes of nine-time Group 1 winner King Mufhasa and star Sydney sprinter Rain Affair also nominated for the event.
Regular jockey Michael Rodd will again be on board this Saturday and the rider is confident she is prepared well to continue her six-race unbeaten streak.
“She is going great. She has pulled up very well,” Rodd said.
“I’m looking forward to Saturday. A Group 1 win against the older horses would be a real feather in her cap at this stage of her career.”
If the talented three-year-old can beat the older brigade this weekend, it will be a seventh straight victory and a second Group 1 win after taking victory in October’s Thousand Guineas ahead of Mosheen.
The youngster already has many in the racing world talking about a future match up with wonder mare Black Caviar and has certainly made her rivals sit up and take note ahead of Saturday.
Ron Quinton, trainer of Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican, said she was definitely the horse to beat this weekend.
“She’s an outstanding filly,” Quinton said.
“She would have beaten those horses in the TJ Smith Stakes I reckon.”
Atlantic Jewel will carry the equal lightest weight (54.5kg), which is 4.5kg less than most of her main rivals.
The 2012 All Aged Stakes takes place as part of a bumper day of action at Randwick that also includes the Sydney Cup and the star-studded Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
