Kulgrinda will take on the locals in the 2012 DC McKay Stakes in Adelaide this Saturday

Set to bring the action to a close at 4:30pm (SA time), the $115,000 Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) runs as Morphettville Race 8 on Saturday with 14 gallopers accepted for the handicap clash.

Local Goolwa-based trainer David Jolly will be out for back-to-back victories following his success with last year’s DC McKay Stakes winner Streetcar Magic.

This year Streetcar Magic is back to defend their title, the Blevic five-year-old drawn in barrier four with Justin Potter to ride.

They won the race second-up 12 months ago and are second-up again on Saturday following a brave fourth when beaten just over a length and a half by We’re Gonna Rock in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes over the track and distance a fortnight ago.

Jolly’s other runner on Saturday will be Basil Da Man who has suffered a blow drawing the extreme outside barrier 14.

Another five-year-old son of Blevic, Basil Da Man is out for successive turf triumphs having narrowly held on to win the Listed Oakbank Stakes (1100m) at Oakbank on April 7.

A jockey is still to be confirmed for them, however, with their Oakbank Stakes winning hoop Potter riding Streetcar Magic.

The three horses that beat Streetcar Magic home in the RN Irwin Stakes have also all been accepted to back up in the DC McKay on Saturday.

Winner We’re Gonna Rock drops back from 58.5kg to 57kg on Saturday, the Mark Kavangh-trained Fastnet Rock gelding undefeated this season.

First up they enjoyed a commanding six length success before their Irwin Stakes victory, Chad Lever retaining the ride for Saturday.

Kavanagh will also be represented on Saturday by his classy Catbird six-year-old Catapulted carrying 58.5kg from gate five with Mark Pegus aboard and coming off an IR Irwin Stakes third.

Irwin Stakes runner-up First Command meanwhile has drawn gate eight for Saturday with Vlad Duric booked to ride the Anthony Freedman-trained Commands six-year-old.

First Command has been in excellent form since their resuming run back in January with notable efforts including their Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m) victory at Flemington from barrier 10 of 10 with 58kg on their back, and their close fourth when beaten just a half-length by Woorim in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield in February.

Other notable chances in the race include recent Mattrice Stakes third placegetter Outlandish Lad drawn ideally in gate three with Damian Browne to ride, their resuming stablemate Magical Pearl, Mark Minervini’s in-form Go The Knuckle who won the Group 2 Centerbet Classic (1200m) on March 12, and the Peter Moody-trained mare Kulgrinda to get the inside run from barrier one with Black Caviar’s rider Luke Nolen in the saddle.
