Black Caviar to sell out Morphetville – Robert Sangster Stakes 2012

It is not too often that a single horse can attract a sell-out crowd but that is expected to happen when wonder mare Black Caviar graces Adelaide with her presence in Saturday’s 2012 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

Black Caviar is set to draw a sell-out crowd to Morphetville this weekend

Around 30,000 people are expected to make their way to Morphetville Racecourse for the return of the world’s best sprinter who will take on her own sex over 1200 metres in the race otherwise known as the Sportingbet Classic.

It is for the spectacle rather than the contest, with the unbeaten mare currently paying around $1.05 with most bookmakers to record a 20th straight victory and an Australasian record.

She currently sits as equal record holder at 19 straight victories with Desert Gold who achieved the magnificent feat in 1916 and Gloaming (1921).

The glamour horse had her final hit-out at her Caulfield base this morning under the watchful eye of leading trainer Peter Moody in what will be her last gallop before Saturday’s $400,000 event.

She is reported to be in top racing condition and will travel to Adelaide tomorrow for the first of her two lead up races before she heads overseas for the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

Following Saturday’s race the superstar will be taken immediately back to Melbourne before returning to the South Australian capital a fortnight later for the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap.

Speaking earlier this month, Moody was confident Adelaide was the right choice for Black Caviar ahead of her overseas campaign.

“Adelaide is the right option. Two short trips on the truck to get there and she’ll come straight home after the first one,” Moody said.

Final acceptances for this weekend’s Group 1 event will be named shortly but it is expected only a small group of bold trainers will be willing to test their horses against the champion.

One horse who is a confirmed starter is Robert Smerdon-trained mare Lone Rock who won last year’s Goodwood and is coming off a fourth-place effort in the William Reid Stakes.
