2012 Gunsynd Classic Nominations

While Sydney and Adelaide will dominate the Saturday racing action this weekend Brisbane will also be host to a double shot of Group events including the Gunsynd Classic 2012 at Eagle Farm.

This year’s edition of the $125,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m), formerly the Gunsynd Mile, attracted 29 nominations when early entries were taken on Monday.

There are plenty of talented three-year-olds nominated for the set weights clash this year including a number of interstate raiders.

Among the Sydney visitors are the likes of Gerald Ryan’s Hussonet filly Angel Of Mercy, known wet tracker Boys On Tour, Tracey Bartley’s Wyong-based filly Meghalaya who ran a good third in a Listed feature at Doomben a fortnight ago, and consistent Pins filly Pretty Pins.

There are also a number of Victorian three-year-olds looking to steal the spotlight including the Peter Moody-trained duo of Brambles coming off a good fourth to Fat Al in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes over the Randwick mile, and Huegill who will appreciate the drop back in class after running five and a half lengths away 14th to Metal Bender in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 7.

There is also a New Zealand galloper in the mix with John Sargent nominating for his Group 1 New Zealand Oaks third palcegetter Quintessential, the daughter of Fast ‘n’ Famous yet to race outside of her homeland.

Queensland hopefuls looking to keep the Gunsynd Classic trophy in the sunshine state include the Brian Smith-trained Arctic, and Ben Currie’s Toowoomba galloper Margins coming off a win at the Gold Coast.

The 2012 Gunsynd Classic final field and barrier draw will be released on Thursday and published right here at Races.com.au.
