Temple Of Boom Wins Galaxy 2012

Queensland gelding Temple Of Boom has scored his first ever Group 1 victory in today’s $350,000 2012 Galaxy at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse.

As the field came into the straight the race could of gone any number of ways, with talented three-year-old Nobby Snip in a position to finish strongly but was beaten by a sharp turn of foot from the Tony Gollan-trained five-year-old.

It marks the fourth victory of the day for highly promising New Zealand jockey James McDonald who had the gelding poised to fire at the top of the straight.

Speaking after the race, McDonald could barely believe he won a Group 1 victory at the famous Sydney track and also praised Toowoomba trainer Gollan.

“I’ve only been beaten on him once, he’s a fantastic horse and I actually can’t believe I’ve just won a Group 1 in Sydney,”McDonald said.

“He’s [Gollan] a fantastic bloke and the whole team around him…to peak him for the galaxy today was awesome.”

It was an emotional victory for Gollan who had been targeting Temple Of Boom for the race and marks his first at the elite level.

“It’s unbelieveable at the moment, I’m actually a little bit speechless,” Gollan said.

“The horse did the job like he has for me so many times.

“This is as good as it gets so far.”

Temple Of Boom now has 10 victories from 18 starts and today’s win will take his career prize pool to more than $1 million.

Joseph Pride-trained mare Ladys Angel finished well to run third behind Nobby Snip while heavily backed favourite Bel Sprinter missed the start and had to settle with a disappointing ninth.
