2012 Anzac Day Stakes Nominations

After the Doncaster Mile Day on Saturday is done and dusted race fans and punters will be turning their attention to Melbourne for Wednesday’s Anzac Stakes Day Races at Flemington, the meeting’s marquee event being the Anzac Day Stakes 2012.

A time-honoured tradition, this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1410m) attracted 22 nominations, a Super VOBIS bonus of $10,000 on offer for qualified horses in the two-year-olds clash.

Just seven of the early entries have broken their maiden status, including the top-rated entry Underestimation.

The Dean Lawson-trained Al Samer colt scored a brilliant three and a half length win in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last month and was last seen running a good second behind Big Chill in the Group 3 Marsh Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Mornington-based trainer Anthony Freedman also prepares three past winners that are heading towards a run in the Anzac Day Stakes field on Wednesday with Boban coming off a Sandwon victory over 1400-metres, Choisir colt Chosen Moment and the lightly-raced Textiles

The other previous winners entered for the Anzac Day Stakes this year are then well-tried Magnus colt How Swede It Is, John Thompson’s Husson filly Hussonette, Peter Snowden’s Lonhro filly Maluti, and local hope Thunder Rain.

A number of the Anzac Day hopefuls have also been accepted to run in the $115,000 Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks on Saturday including Chosen Moment and How Swede It Is.

The official 2012 Anzac Day Stakes field and barriers will be out next week and published right here at Races.com.au.
