It will be familiar conditions for last year’s runner-up Thankgodyou’rehere when he looks to go one better in the 2012 Galaxy at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday.
Last year’s Group 1 sprint (1100m) was run on a heavy (10) track and with plenty of foul weather in Sydney this week, conditions are set to be similar this weekend.
Trained by Patrick and Wayne Webster, the gelding is returning from a spell, something she has done successfully on numerous occasions.
Last seen running second to Woorim in the Group 3 Tab.com.au Stakes, the six-year-old has won twice and finished second a further two times when running first-up and Wayne Webster is confident he is in good condition.
“He has returned in good order and it is probably the best he has looked physically but you would expect that spelling him that time of year and spelling for that long,” Webster said.
“He trialled back in March this time round and has since had a good gallop to top him off nicely and it is all systems go.”
The winner of eight races from 20 starts has recorded to victories at the Galaxy length of 1100 metres and Webster believes the distance is right for the daugther of Secret Savings.
“We want to ride him like an 1100-metre horse and he is ready for 1100 metres, we are not there to get too far back and muck around,” Webster said.
Currently rated a heavy 9, the track is unlikely to improve too much before Saturday and Webster admits he would prefer a dry track but is unlikely to consider scratching Thankgodyou’rehere.
“He is meeting some very fast horses and I would love to be meeting them on top of the ground as he loves Randwick and loves a good track but it is not going to be.”
Thankgodyou’re here currently sits at $14.00 in the bookmaker.com.au Galaxy market with Victorian gelding Bel Sprinter the $5.00 favourite ahead of in-form three-year-old Nobby Snip ($6.00).
