James McDonald will be hoping for a quick return...
Six-year-old gelding Zaratone has pulled up well following his Sebring Stakes win and is on track for a good showing in the 2012 Galaxy at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday.
Trained by Nick Olive, Zaratone improved on a third-place effort in the Maurice McCarten Stakes to win by two-and-a-half lengths ahead of Winter King in the Sebring Stakes filling Olive with confidence ahead of the $350,000 Group 1 sprint (1100m).
Olive said Zaratone was in his best ever condition as he looks to score his first ever victory at Group 1 level.
“He’s going fantastic. It was probably the best he’s ever pulled up after a run to be honest,” he said.
“The horse at the moment is just somewhere I’ve never had him before, he’s just doing everything sensationally.”
With plenty of rain expected in the lead up to this weekend, a wet track is almost a certainty at the famous Sydney racecourse and Olive is unsure how Zaratone will handle the conditions.
“I don’t know what to think, I’d rather him on top of the ground before but he has been effective in the wet before,” Olive said.
Kathy O’Hara has ridden the gelding in his last two starts and she will again be on board when Zaratone jumps from barrier three in the eighth race of the day at Randwick.
A full field of 14 horses plus two emergencies were today named in the final field for the event that is the third Group 1 race to take place at the famous Sydney racecourse this weekend.
Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Nobby Snip is one of the in-form horses in the line up and he will be chasing a fourth consecutive victory and his first at Group 1 level.
The three-year-old will carry the minimum weight of 52.5kg and is fresh off an impressive victory in the Listed Eskimo Quality ahead of highly-rated Doncaster starter Niagara.
Also named in the final field are former Silver Slipper winner Satin Shoes, last year’s runner-up Thankgodyou’rehere and highly rated gelding Bel Sprinter.
Markets will open shortly for all the racing action at Randwick this weekend and the place to find the best odds is bookmaker.com.au.
