Fernhill Handicap 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

The 2012 Fernhill Handicap will kick off a bumper day of racing action at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday that is headed by the prestigious $2 million Doncaster Mile and the Australian Oaks.

Eleven horses were today named in the final field for the $100,000 Listed two-year-old race that will be run over 1600 metres.

Heading the field is Dear Demi who will be ridden by up and coming New Zealand jockey James McDonald from barrier four as the equal top weight at 58kg.

The promising Clarry Connors-trained filly has one victory from six starts and is fresh off a runner-up finish to Flying Snitzel in the Group 3 Schweppervescence on Golden Slipper Day.

Exciting Paul Messara colt Rowie will also carry 58kg into the race and it will be interesting to see whether he can build on his one-and-a-half length debut victory which came at Randwick-Kensington on April 9.

High profile Sydney trainer Peter Snowden has two runners in the 11-horse field with gelding Proverb and colt Solemn.

With a favourable barrier five draw, Proverb should produce a strong showing on Saturday after producing some reasonable form in his three starts to date.

The Commands gelding won on debut in Wyong in early March and is coming off a fourth-place effort in the Schweppervescence.

Stepping up to run in her first Listed level race is filly Great Dansaar who has recorded one victory and one third-place effort from three career starts.

She has the advantage of running at the minimum weight of 54.5kg and will be have experienced jockey Jim Cassidy in the saddle when she runs from barrier eight.

Other horses named in the race that will jump as the first at Randwick this Saturday are John Thompson pair Strength and Trophies.

The markets for all the Randwick action this weekend will open shortly, so for great value odds for the bumper weekend of racing visit bookmaker.com.au.

With a $300 bonus bet offer for first time depositing customers, it is little wonder the Australian owned bookie is the Races.com.au favourite.
