Elite Falls Expected to Shine in Wet – The Galaxy 2012

With rain predicted for the rest of the week in Sydney, the track at the famous Royal Randwick Racecourse is expected to be wet this Saturday for the 2012 Galaxy but that should faze John O’Shea-trained filly Elite Falls.

The three-year-old ran well during trackwork as the rain poured down at Randwick yesterday and O’Shea is welcoming the prospect of a heavy track this weekend.

“Rain is a positive for her,” O’Shea said.

After finishing second in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate earlier this year, she struggled to finish fifth in the Challenge Stakes but O’Shea is unconcerned by that result and believes she will up to the task on Saturday.

“She’s been going well all along,” O’Shea said.

“The scenario that presents itself on Saturday probably lends itself to her running well again.”

Leading jockey Jim Cassidy rode her to victory on a slow track in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes last year and he is confident the More Than Ready filly will have an advantage if the track is as wet as predicted.

“The more rain the better,” Cassidy said.

“If it pours down I would love it.”

Cassidy rode her yesterday morning in her last hit out before Saturday’s $350,000 Group 1 sprint and he was pleased with her condition.

“She worked very nicely this morning and I’m very happy with her.”

The final field will be named later today but a high class group of sprinters have been nominated for the 1100 metre feature race.

Among those is Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Nobby Snip who is chasing a fourth straight victory.

The three-year-old signalled his potential at the start of this year when winning by more than six lengths at Canterbury and then went on to win the Listed Fireball Quality and the Eskimo Prince ahead of Doncaster fancy Niagara.

Also nominated are Group 1 winner Lone Rock, well regarded gelding Bel Sprinter and last year’s Galaxy runner-up Thankgodyou’rehere.
