The best two-year-old horses in South Australia as well as some travellers will be on display in Adelaide this Saturday for the $115,000 Group 3 2012 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Morphetville.
Heading the list of juveniles is Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained filly Big Chill who is chasing a third consecutive victory.
Interestingly, the daughter of Artie Schiller finished a disappointing 15th on debut last year but has been in sensational form since returning to racing in 2012.
She won a two-year-old maiden race at Sale first-up and then went on to take top honours in the Group 2 Marsh Breeders’ Stakes by more than a length ahead of Underestimation.
She will have to do it from the outside barrier (12) if she is to continue her winning streak this weekend and faces a genuine challenger in Anthony Freedman colt Chosen Moment.
The colt will run from one barrier inside Big Chill and has form on the board after winning first-up in Bendigo by two-and-a-half lengths before finishing second in the Alternate Rail handicap at Moonee Valley last start.
Also coming into the race in good form is How Swede It Is who has won once and placed four times from just six career starts.
The Magnus colt finished runner-up in the Listed St Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley and then went on to win the Brooklands Plate by more than a length at Mornington last start.
The dark horse for the exciting juvenile race is Will Clarken-trained filly Molto Bene who is fresh off a debut victory in Gawler at the start of this month.
The 1400 metre two-year-old race is the feature event on a eight-race card at Morphetville this weekend and will serve as part of the build up to next weekend’s huge day of racing that will see Black Caviar contest the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes.
