2012 Pink Ribbon Cup Field – Melbourne Cup Hope in the Mix

This Saturday Caulfield Racecourse will host Melbourne’s latest black type event with the Pink Ribbon Cup 2012, formerly the Anniversary Vase, taking centre stage where imported galloper and Melbourne Cup hopeful Seville will make their Australian race debut.

Testa My Patience

Group 2 winner Testa My Patience will seek another stakes win int he 2012 Pink Ribbon Cup on Saturday

Recent Lloyd Williams-purchased Galileo four-year-old Seville is one of 12 confirmed starters plus two emergencies engaged to face off in the $100,000 Pink Ribbon Cup (1400m) in Caulfield Race 6 at 3:15pm on Saturday.

Drawn in barrier five the 60kg topweight will be ridden by Eddie Cassar, the former Aiden O’Brien-trained triple Group 1 runner-up racing for the first time since September last year.

Seville, now prepared by Robert Hickmott, was purchased by Williams with an eye on the $6.2 million Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on the first Tuesday of November.

The next heaviest-weighted Pink Ribbon Cup hopeful on Saturday is then the Mick Price-trained Group 2 Crystal Mile winner Testa My Patience in barrier 10 to carry 59.5kg.

The Testa Rossa five-year-old was last seen finishing fourth behind Smokin’ Joey in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap over the track and distance on April 7 when ridden by Glen Boss, Peter Mertens to take over riding duties on Saturday.

Price also accepted for his piping hot Snitzel mare Shelia’s Star, the in-form four-year-old needing a scratching to gain a start as the first emergency.

If she gets that she will jump from a nice barrier four draw with Boss aboard.

If not Price has also accepted her for the Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap (1400m) at Morphettville.

Sheila’s Star has won her last three on the trot by a collective 11.5 lengths, the last two with Boss in the saddle over the 1400-metres at Caulfield.

Peter Morgan meanwhile opted not to accept for one of original nominees in Amah Star but will still be represented in the field by his General Nediym gelding Dusty Star who drew wide with barrier 14.

Dusty Star resumed with a good second behind Diplomatic Force over 1170m at Wangaratta at the start of the month and boast a solid second-up record of one win and two minor placings from five attempts.

Other gallopers drawing further out, which with the likely Heavy rated track could be a distinct disadvantage, include classy middle distance galloper Under The Eiffel (14) coming off a Victoria Handicap second, Utah Saints (12) and the progressive Freereturn (11) who hasn’t lost a race since September last year.

Other notable Pink Ribbon Cup – Anniversary Vase hopefuls include Peter Moody’s resuming Elusive King in gate six and the Anthony Freedman-trained Dubawi mare Zubbaya coming off a fourth to Spirit Song in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes over the Moonee Valley mile back on March 23.
