Last year’s Galaxy runner-up Thankgodyou’rehere will attempt to go one better this weekend when he turns out in the Group 1 2012 Galaxy (1100m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday.
Fresh from a spell after a quality spring campaign, the six-year-old is a successful first-up runner having scored victory twice and finished runner-up another two times from five efforts.
The six-year-old is yet to win a Group 1 event but trainer Patrick Webster believes he is much-improved compared to the horse that lost to Atomic Force last year.
“I’m very happy with him and looking forward to the race,” Webster said.
“We have learned a lot about him over the past year and we are looking to take him to Queensland again.”
Thankgodyou’rehere is coming off a spring campaign that saw him record one victory and place on another two occasions including a second to Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim in the Group 3 Tab.com.au Stakes.
With rain predicted in Sydney for much of this week, Webster is not concerned at the likelihood of having to run on a wet track.
“He ran second on a heavy 10 last year and I didn’t think he would handle it,” Webster said.
A total of 24 entries have been received for the Group 1 sprint which is set to be reduced to 14 when the final field is named tomorrow.
Included in nominations is in-form Gai Waterhouse gelding Nobby Snip who is chasing a first ever victory at Group level.
The highly promising three-year-old has been in sensational form this year, having won three consecutive races including the Eskimo Prince Stakes ahead of Doncaster fancy Niagara.
Other horses entered for the Group 1 sprint are Sebring Stakes winner Zaratone, Jason Warren-trained gelding Bel Sprinter, Group 1 winning mare Lone Rock and Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican.
