Driefontein Heads 2012 Keith Mackay Quality Nominations

With the Golden Slipper now in the past, it doesn’t mean two-year-old racing is finished for the autumn, with 11 fillies nominated to contest the Listed 2012 Keith Mackay Quality at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday.

Run over 1200 metres, the most high profile horse entered in the $100,000 event is Gai Waterhouse filly Driefontein.

A daughter of Fastnet Rock, she has had a highly successful career to date, proving unbeatable in her first four starts before running sixth to superstar Pierro in the Golden Slipper.

With just five starts under her belt, she has already collected over $1.3 million in prize money mostly as a result of winning the prized Magic Millions event on the Gold Coast in January.

Other notable victories have come in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes at Doomben in December and the Listed Tom Cassar Widden Stakes at Warwick Farm earlier this year.

Second on that day at Warwick Farm was Agueda, who gets a chance to exact revenge this Saturday after yesterday being included among the 11 entries.

The Anthony Cummings-trained horse has shown plenty of promise in her young career, recording one victory and four placings from six trips to the track.

She is coming into the race in good form after running second to Dances Of Stars in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes on Saturday.

Fellow Cummings-trained filly Calamba has also been nominated and will be running for the first time at Group level after signalling potential with a fourth-placing and a runner-up finish in Handicap races at Hawkesbury and Gosford.

Leading Sydney trainer Peter Snowden has entered Meidung who won on debut and is coming off a promising third to Samaready in the Reisling Stakes.

The Keith Mackay Quality is a key support race on an exciting day of racing that includes the prestigious Doncaster Mile and the ATC Oaks.
