Doncaster Mile Barrier Draw 2012 – Favourite in 12

The top two fancies for Saturday’s marquee race at Royal Randwick have both drawn double digit gates in the 2012 Doncaster Mile barrier draw today with Group 1 winning mares Secret Admirer and More Joyous coming up with 22 and 12 respectively.

Sincero is one of the best drawn horses in the 2012 Doncaster Mile field for Saturday

Earlier today a capacity 20 starter plus two emergency final field of acceptors was taken for the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), which will run as Randwick Race 7 at 3:35pm on Saturday.

In updated Doncaster Mile odds at our preferred online bookie the Grahame Begg-trained Secret Admirer, winner of last year’s Epsom Handicap, has been installed as the $6.50 favourite.

The price on the Dubawi four-year-old who comes off a close third behind withdrawn Doncaster hope Metal Bender in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 7, however, is likely to ease after she drew the extreme outside barrier.

Secret Admirer would still only come into barrier 20 if the two Doncaster Mile emergencies Happy Trails (20) and All Legal (11) fail to gain a start.

Occupying the second line of Doncaster Mile betting is then Gai Waterhouse’s six-time elite level winner More Joyous coming off a big win in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) on Golden Slipper Day.

More Joyous has come up with barrier 12 for her second shot at a Doncaster win, the five-year-old having run a distant 11th last year from gate eight on a bog track.

Waterhouse, looking to equal her father Tommy Smith on seven Doncaster Mile victories, has two other hopes in the classic on Saturday with Niagara and Fast Clip who drew gates 16 and 4 respectively.

With wet weather in Sydney and a predicted Slow track for Doncaster Day the bookies and punters are looking favorably on horses drawn a little wider, Niagara proving that with their $11 price while Doncaster Prelude winner Fast Clip is a $41 roughie.

Chris Waller’s quartet of Doncaster hopes in 2012 suffered mixed results in the barrier draw.

Chipping Norton Stakes winner Shoot Out will jump from 10, 2010 Doncaster champ Rangirangdoo from 17 with the 58kg topweight, veteran galloper Danleigh in barrier eight and Albert The Fat one on their inside from seven.

Shoot Out and Rangirangdoo pay $9 each in the Doncaster markets, Danleigh and Albert The Fat longer at quotes of $34 and $67.

One other runner is equal $9 third favourite along with Waller’s duo with Sincero.

A winner with the barriers drawing nicely in six, Stephen Farley’s dual Group 1 champion Sincero looks ready to strike third-up after two promising runs including their fifth in the George Ryder last time out.
