Hot Snitzel Considered for 2012 The Galaxy

Sydney horseman Gerald Ryan is considering running his promising three-year-old Hot Snitzel up against the older horses in The Galaxy 2012 on Doncaster Mile Day at Royal Randwick this Saturday.

Hot Snitzel

Hot Snitzel could run next-up in the 2012 The Galaxy at Randwick this Saturday

A winner of five of their 13 career starts to date, most recently when beating home Golden Rose winner Manawanui first-up in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm in February, Snitzel gelding Hot Snitzel was last seen finishing fifth behind Wild And Proud in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on a Heavy (9) Rosehill track on March 3.

“He’s just been poking around at home doing a little bit of work,” Ryan said.

“He thrives in the stable environment.

“He’s only lightly framed and it can fool you into thinking he won’t cop a lot of work but he does.

“Not fast work but pace work.”

Looking for the right race next-up for the four-time stakes winner, Ryan is likely to nominate Hot Snitzel for the $350,000 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick this weekend.

“I’m eighty per cent certain he will run in the Galaxy,” Ryan said.

“The other option is the Gosford Guineas.”

The $125,000 Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) runs on Sunday, one day after The Galaxy.

If nominated and then accepted for The Galaxy field it will be the fourth time Hot Snitzel races at elite level, regular rider Hugh Bowman to retain the mount.

In their Group 1 debut they ran a disappointing 12th behind the now overseas-raced Sepoy in the 2011 Golden Rose followed by a second to another Peter Snowden-trained youngster in Benfica in the 2011 TJ Smith during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival last June.

Their latest attempt at a thoroughbred major was their sixth to Sepoy in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington last Victoria Derby Day.

The 2012 The Galaxy is one of three Group 1 features on the card along with the lucrative $2 million Doncaster Mile Handicap (1600m) and the $550,000 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) for the three-year-old fillies.

Official The Galaxy nominations are due out shortly and will be published right here at Races.com.au.
