2012 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes Nominations

After the upset win by Golden Slipper winner Pierro in last Saturday’s ATC Sires Produce Stakes, this weekend the attention turns to Adelaide where the South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) will host the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes 2012 at Morphettville Parks.

Nominations for the $115,000 Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) were taken on Monday with 15 two-year-olds making up the early entries for the classic.

The top-rated SA Sires’ Produce Stakes entry this year comes from the Flemington stables of Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra with Big Chill who will be looking to make it back-to-back wins for the Melbourne fillies after the Peter Moody-trained Cute Emily claimed the honours in her third career start last year.

Lightly-raced Artic Schiller filly Big Chill debuted last Melbourne Cup Day when running a distant 15th behind Applegate in the Listed Emirates Airline Plate (1000m) at her home track.

Resuming at Sale on March 14 she broke her maiden status with a nice win, which she added to a fortnight later maintaining her flawless record this time in with a victory in the Group 3 Marsh Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Marsh Breeders Stakes third placegetter Monica Kate has also been nominated for Saturday’s SA Sires’ Produce Stakes, the Gordon Richards-trained filly looking to keep the trophy at home in Adelaide.

Some of the other more notable local hopes include Will Clarken’s Royal Academy filly Molto Bene who won at Gawler on debut at the start of the month, last-start Balaklava winner over 1300-metres Out Of Coober and the Tony McEvoy-trained Serena.

Meanwhile another Victorian trainer with a hand in Saturday’s Sires’ Produce Stakes nominations is Mornington-based Anthony Freedman who has entered both his Sandown winner Boban and Choisir colt Chosen Moment.

Fellow Mornington horseman Shane Nichols has nominated for How Swede It Is who comes off a win at their home track over 1200m, before which they ran second to subsequent Marsh Breeders’ Stakes runner-up Underestimation in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

Saturday is shaping up as a top-class day of racing in Adelaide with other highlights on the Morphettville Parks card including the $80,000 Listed Adelaide Handicap (1400m) and the $80,000 Listed HC Nitschke Stakes (1400m).

Once Adelaide race fields for the weekend’s features are released on Wednesday the best odds on the events will be found online at the Australian-owned and operated bookie bookmaker.com.au.
