Morphettville Results – We’re Gonna Rock Wins 2012 RN Irwin Stakes

We’re Gonna Rock has won the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes at Morphettville Racecourse today April 14, 2012.

The five-year-old gelding won the race ahead of second place runner First Command and third place-getter Catapulted.

We’re Gonna Rock is now unbeaten across his two runs this preparation, winning the $40,000 McClusky Public Relations Handicap at Morphettville on March 10, 2012.

The Fastnet Rock gelding, who was only gelded last year after failing to perform up to his level of ability, has won four of his 12 race starts and has earned more than $255,000 in prize money.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh had three horses in today’s 2012 RN Irwin Stakes and was confident all of them would perform.

However, he was exceptionally happy with We’re Gonna Rock’s progress coming into today’s race.

“He’s trained on and we’re really happy with him – he’ll get back and run home,” Kavanagh said before the race.

“Catapulted will be on the pace and Valentine Miss will go back and run home.

“I’m not leaning any way in particular, it’s just going to be how the race is run.”

We’re Gonna Rock is aiming towards the Group 1 The Goodwood at Morphettville on May 12, 2012, but this plan may be thrown into disarray should Black Caviar accept for the race.

Kavanagh has made no secret of his plans to avoid the unbeaten mare, and it is clear that The Goodwood 2012 would be no exception.

“(We’re Gonna Rock was) going towards The Goodwood, but unfortunately we may have to reassess that because of the Black Caviar situation,” he said.

We’re Gonna Rock was the $3.20 favourite to win the 2012 RN Irwin Stakes at
