Crucial Too Good For Empress Rock In 2012 Schweppervescence Stakes

The 2012 Schweppervescence Stakes has been won by Crucial at Morphettville Racecourse today.

It was an upset win from the Nadeem filly, who was paying odds of $18 to win the 2012 Schweppervescence Stakes at

Crucial won the race by a short margin ahead of Rahveel, who finished second, and Crimson Lady, who held on well for third.

It was the first time Crucial had made the step up to Group 3 level and she proved she was more than capable of handling the competition.

The three-year-old has now won three of her 11 race starts and has earned more than $120,000 in prize money.

Crucial’s last win came in September last year, when she won a $22,500 handicap at Ballarat.

The Anthony Freedman-trained filly, who is based at Mornington, finished fourth in her last start in the $70,000 No Fuss Solutions Plate for three-year-olds at Caulfield Racecourse on March 24, 2012.

Race favourite Empress Rock was unable to continue her winning streak and had to be content with a fifth placing.

The $1.90 favourite at has won her past two race starts in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes and Group 2 Fillies Classic and was well backed to make it three in a row in today’s 2012 Schweppervescence Stakes.

Empress Rock has won three of her seven race starts and earned more than $350,000 in prize money.
