Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
With Rosehill Guineas runner-up Ocean Park this morning scratched from the 2012 Australian Derby, there has been plenty of movement in the markets ahead of the seventh race at Sydney today.
The markets suggest it will now be a two horse race and it is hard to argue, with the pair having by far the best records in the 12-horse field.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse, Laser Hawk has won four of five starts including the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas ahead of Ocean Park and Silent Achiever two weeks ago.
Silent Achiever had the hardest run of the field that day and will be boosted today by a far better barrier draw (9) which is two inside Laser Hawk.
The Roger James-trained filly was dominant in New Zealand, winning five of seven starts, and in her last race across the Tasman she won the New Zealand Derby by two-and-a-half lengths.
The next best in the betting behind the top two are Ethiopia ($10.00) and Polish Knight and Rekindled Alliance who are both currently paying $12.00.
Ethiopia has only had three starts to date but has shown promise, producing two third-placings and a runner-up finish to Highly Recommended in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes.
Polish Knight is fresh off a win in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes while Rekindled Alliance was runner-up in that same race.
Those three look the most likely to challenge the top two horses but for those that like a roughie, Alister Clark Stakes third place-getter Sangster is currently paying $31.00.
