Mark Kavanaghwas again rendered almost speechless by Atlantic Jewel’s spectacular win.

“It’s a relief,” Kavanagh said.

“I questioned myself a couple of times but I thought she would (win today).

“She’s just a special horse.

“Look at her today. That was just remarkable what she did there.”

Atlantic Jewel now remains unbeaten across her six race starts and has earned more than $680,000 in prize money.

This was the three-year-old’s first autumn start after taking almost six months off racing due to a muscle injury sustained in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes last spring.

“We knew that if we looked after her we could get her back to this,” Kavanagh said.

“It’s a mild injury which is a hard one to diagnose.”

The trainer admitted that they were unsure of whether Atlantic Jewel would have another run this autumn before tackling the feature races during the spring racing carnival.

“I don’t know yet,” he said.

“The original plan was to give her one more.

“Nothing’s out of the question the way she’s going right now.

“These horses don’t come along very often and Australia’s so lucky at the moment we have a few.”

Part-owner Demi O’Byrne was thrilled to have Atlantic Jewel back at her best in today’s 2012 Sapphire Stakes.

“It’s such a great relief to have her back,” O’Byrne said.

O’Byrne didn’t rule out an overseas campaign for Atlantic Jewel, however, insisted she would remain in Australia for the foreseeable future.

“Maybe towards the end but I think for the moment stay in Australia,” he said.

Jockey Michael Rodd has an easy task as he steered Atlantic Jewel to win the 2012 Sapphire Stakes.

“Kav’s done a wonderful job for her,” Rodd said.

“We know that the spring carnival is her main goal is.

“Everything she’s been doing at home has been that exciting we couldn’t really talk about it.

“She began really well (today) and then she just switched off like she normally does.

“She took off.

“She’ll get better as she gets further.”
