Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Perth punters will be treated to double shot of Group racing action at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday, one of the headline events being the WA Sires Produce Stakes 2012, our insider tips and betting preview for which is detailed below.
Due to jump as Ascot Race 6 at 3:40pm (WA time) the $200,000 Group 3 W.A. Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) has this year drawn a final field of 11, the latest odds on the race led by the Simon Miller-trained Miss Solis.
With the rails run Oratorio filly Miss Solis, coming off a good third in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate over 1200m at the track, pays around $2.80 in the markets and is closely followed by Karrakatta Plate winner Luke’s Luck at $3.60.
Winner of the Spuremacy Stakes two back Miss Solis is the early WA Sires’ Produce Stakes betting market mover in form $2.90 to $2.80 and really could be the one to beat here if she handles the step up in distance.
Trevor Andrews’ nicely-bred Show A Heart colt out of Redoute’s Choice mare Red Queen Luke’s Luck has more work to do from their barrier eight draw and the punters have been shying away from them with their price out form $3.40 to $3.60.
Who are the other major players in the WA Sires’ Produce Stakes field this year?
The only other single-figure chance is the lightly-raced Keeper Quiet paying around $4.50 – $4.60 to win after their good second in the Karrakatta Plate, while longer priced hopefuls not without claims include last start winning Red Ransom filly Fuddle Dee Duddle ($9.50) and the Shane Edwards-trained Fine Copper ($14) with a nice barrier four draw which will help them improve from their Karrakatta fifth when hampered by barrier 14 of 16.
So who are the Races.com.au team tipping and why? Read on to find out.
Ascot Race 6 Betting – 2012 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes Tips
#6 Miss Solis
From her inside barrier one draw this nice filly in the making is the deserved favourite. She’ll get the distance no worries for us and has been in flying form from the start.
Winner of three from five, the only reason she was three quarters off the winner in the Karrakatta Plate was her extreme outside (16 of 16) draw.
She gets the gate here and should get the win.
#1 Luke’s Luck and #8 Keeper Quiet
The bookies really do have the order of the odds right for us.
Luke’s Luck won the Karrakatta Plate but they did have a bit of luck, still they came from double digits and fought it out. Have improvement we’re sure.
Keeper Quiet has really made an impression since their January debut. Were less than half a length off Luke’s Luck last time out, before which they won by two and a half at the track. It’s a class rise for this but shouldn’t really have any trouble from barrier seven.

#8 Fine Copper
Get a draw (4) and should improve on their Karrakatta fifth, beaten three lengths, when jumping from 14. They aren’t much off the top ones and won over 1200m at the track two back so can win, just need to be consistent.
