WA Sires’ Produce Stakes 2012 Nominations

The best two-year-old horses in the west will line up this weekend in the 2012 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse.

Headlining the list of 13 nominations for the $200,000 Group 3 event is in-form colt Luke’s Luck.

Trained by Trevor Andrews, he is fresh off a win in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate which was preceded by a fourth-place finish in the Perth Stakes and a runner-up effort in the Supremacy Stakes.

The winner of the Supremacy Stakes was Miss Solis, who has also been nominated for Saturday’s race.

The Simon Miller-trained filly probably has a better record than Luke’s Luck, having won three of five starts to date.

She won her first three starts before finishing runner-up to Darlington Abbey in the Gimcrack Stakes and third in the Karrakatta Plate.

Another nominated horse who would be familiar to the average weekend punter is Fuddle Dee Duddle who ran fourth in the Karrakatta Plate and is fresh off a victory last weekend in the Westspeed Nursery Handicap at Ascot.

Karrakatta Plate runner-up Keeper Quiet is another in-form filly nominated after finishing second on debut before winning a plate race and just missing out to Luke’s Luck in the Karrakatta.

Other horses nominated are Joe Miller-trained Wombie’s Legacy and Karrakatta fifth-place getter Fine Copper.

The WA Sires’ Produce Stakes serves as one of two group races on the Ascot card this weekend with the major highlight being the WATC Derby.

Worth $400,000, the WATC Derby will feature a who’s who of Western Australian three-year-old stars including Pop Culture, Caiguna and Lethal Jones.

Betting will open over the next couple of days for the WA Sires’ Produce Stakes but bookmaker.com.au already has an open market for the WATC Derby.
