Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of the early Australian Derby Day Group race features for the punters at Royal Randwick this Saturday, the Adrian Knox Stakes 2012 final field and barrier draw has now been released by the Australian Turf Club (ATC).
Due to run as Randwick Race 3 at 1:04pm, the $125,000 Group 3 Patinack Farm Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) field features 10 three-year-old fillies, all of the original nominees paid up for at acceptance stage.
Top weight of the Adrian Knox Stakes this year is the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra co-trained Secret Liaison due to jump from barrier three with Michael Rodd riding on 59kg.
The Artie Schiller filly was last seen running second over 1700m at Caulfield on April 7 but hasn’t won a race since her tight victory in the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) at Sandown last November.
Following Secret Liaison in the Adrian Knox Stakes weights on 57.5kg is then the only last-start winner in the feature, Roger James’ Kiwi filly Full Of Spirit.
Due to jump from the ideal barrier two draw with New Zealand jockey James McDonald in the saddle, Full Of Spirit runs in Australia for the first time in the Adrian Knox.
A winner of two of her eight starts to date the daughter of Flying Spur earned her trip to Oz after putting three lengths on her rivals over the mile at Awapuni on March 31 with McDonald aboard.
James’ big runner at Randwick is of course his New Zealand Derby winner Silent Achiever who will take on the boys in the $1.5 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m), the smart filly the $3.60 co-favourite with Rosehill Guineas winner Laser Hawk in the bookmaker.com.au markets.
Another big player in the Adrian Knox on Saturday is 2012 ATC Oaks-bound Plumm, the Grahame Begg-trained Encosta De Lago filly drawn in barrier six with Glyn Schofield to ride.
Coming off a fifth to the brilliant Mosheen in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day last Saturday, Plumm now has a run over the distance under her belt and should be far more competitive against a lower grade of rivals in the Adrian Knox.
Other fillies to watch in the race on Saturday include the Guy Walter-trained Lightens who has work to do from barrier 10, and the John O’Shea-trained Scram who races for just the fourth time on Saturday, Craig Williams booked to ride the Savabeel filly for the first time.
