The BMW 2012 Winner Is Manighar – Rosehill Results

Manighar has proved too good for his competitors to win the Group 1 The BMW at Rosehill Racecourse today April 7, 2012.

The speedy grey gelding won the 2012 The BMW in front of Americain, who ran second, and Drunken Sailor, who finished third.

The win made Manighar the first horse to win the Group 1 Australian Cup, Group 1 Ranvet Stakes and Group 1 The BMW treble.

Manighar has now won four of his five starts since being transferred to Peter Moody from English training powerhouse Luca Cumani.

Moody was complimentary of Manighar after The BMW 2012 was run.

“He’s lovely isn’t he?” Moody said.

“He’s just a joy to have round the place.

“He doesn’t cause us any problems.”

Moody shed some light on Manighar’s magnificent form transformation since arriving at his Caulfield stables.

“He’s always had the ability but maybe just needed the will back in him,” he said.

“I think you’ve got to be very open minded when you take on these horses.

“We tried to build his confidence at home.

“He wasn’t going to worry about anything else in the race.

“Once again his form might weight him out of the handicaps in the spring.”

Moody alluded to the fact that Manighar could continue racing into the winter, with the Doomben Cup on May 19, 2012, a possible target.

The trainer also said Manighar would likely take a Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup path during the Melbourne spring.

“We’ll let the horse do the talking,” Moody said.

“I’m happy to go down that path if that’s their wish.

“There’s a race caused the Cox Plate.

“If he’s in good form then why not?”

Jockey Luke Nolen was aboard Manighar for his 2012 The BMW win.

Nolen mentioned that Manighar raced too keenly in the early stages of the race but his class allowed him to hold onto the win.

“The only bad thing about that probably positive ride was that he was a little bit keen,” Nolen said.

“I wasn’t sure if he was going to show the same turn of foot.

“He felt like he kicked nicely.”

Nolen was full of praise for Peter Moody after the race.

“I think Pete (Moody) deserves a special mention here,” he said.

“It’s been a fantastic job what he’s been able to do with this old horse.

“I really do think he deserves all the credit.”

“They always know how to find the line and they’re always taught that at home.”
