Champion galloper Hay List will miss the entire autumn after falling victim to a life threatening bout of colic on Thursday.
Hay List was rushed to the Randwick Equine Hospital on Thursday night to undergo lifesaving surgery.
Fortunately for the talented gelding, it appears he will make a full recovery for the deadly illness.
It is not the first time Hay List has succumbed to colic, with the original case presenting itself during last year’s Brisbane winter racing carnival in Queensland.
Hay List has won 15 of his 23 race starts and has earned more than $2.54 million in prize money.
The gelding is trained by John McNair at his home stables of Gosford in New South Wales.
Known to be the only horse that can put the pressure on Black Caviar, Hay List has finished in the top two in all his three starts this preparation.
The Statue Of Liberty gelding finished second to the super mare in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes first-up, before winning the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap in his next run.
Hay List won the $1 million Newmarket Handicap whilst carrying an unbelievable 58.5 kilograms.
The six-year-old was due to have his next run in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Royal Randwick racecourse on April 14, 2012.
Connections of the star sprinter will now have to be content with a possible Brisbane Winter and Melbourne Spring racing campaign.
