With a lot of short-priced favourites running in various Rosehill races this weekend, the Group 2 2012 Tulloch Stakes should prove interesting for the punters with a more open market.
Run over 2000 metres, the Tulloch Stakes will test 12 three-year-old colts and geldings as the fourth race at Rosehill this weekend.
Paul Messara-trained Rekindled Alliance ($3.10 – bookmaker.com.au) has shortened as favourite but Strawberry Boy is not too far away at $3.80.
Outside the two front runners, there are plenty of horses hovering around the $10.00 mark with Iggi Pop ($8.00) and Darci Be Good ($8.50) the next best in the betting.
The Races.com.au team have been keeping an eagle eye on the form and have come up with our best tips for the Tulloch Stakes which stands as a key support event on a bumper Golden Slipper Day card.
Our winning pick provides some value with Darci Be Good currently paying $8.50 at bookmaker.com.au.
The New Zealand colt has been racing against top class opposition and will appreciate the drop back in class after finishing mid-field in both the Randwick and Rosehill Guineas.
The Group 2 level competition is more suitable for the Bede Murray-trained horse who should be near the front at the business end of the race come Saturday.
While we have picked a horse coming down in class to take top honours, it is two stepping up that we expect to to fill the placings.
Unbeaten Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Strawberry Boy ($3.80) only debuted on March 10 but has been impressive in his two starts to date.
He won his first ever race by four lengths in Newcastle before backing up on March 29 to win the Evergreen Turf Australia Handicap at Hawkesbury by a dominant four-and-a-half lengths.
Exciting New Zealand gelding Iggi Pop is also running at Group level for the first time but is coming off two straight wins at Newcastle and Randwick and should improve again come Saturday.
Redoute’s Choice gelding Compass is yet another horse running for the first time at Group level this weekend but has been in excellent form so far with two wins and a second from three career starts.
If the Gai Waterhouse-trained horse can handle the step up this weekend he provides excellent value for the punters at $18.00.
