The Schweppervescene 2012 – Predictions

With all the hype this week about the Golden Slipper, one could be forgiven for not knowing there is another two-year-old race on the Rosehill card this Saturday.

The 2012 Schweppervescence will test 15 juvenile horses who were not quite good enough to qualify for the prestigious Golden Slipper and Flying Snitzel is the current odds-on favourite.

Paying $2.60 (bookmaker.com.au), the Gerald Ryan-trained filly has one win from four starts and is fresh off a third-place effort in the Magic Night Stakes.

Outside of the race-favourite it appears to be a very open contest and Races.com.au is here to narrow it down and provide you with our best predictions for the Group 3 1400 metre race.

The Winner

Flying Snitzel is by far the most credentialed runner in the field and the daughter of Snitzel should be far too good for her competitors in what is the first race at Rosehill this Saturday.

She has drawn the favourable barrier seven position and will be ridden by experienced Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman.

The Placings

Commands gelding Proverb ($10.00) may have finished sixth last start in the NIB Handicap at Newcastle but the Peter Snowden-trained horse showed enough when winning on debut in early March to suggest he should be near the front come business time on Saturday.

Smart Man ($15.00) is one horse coming off a win and we expect the Stratum colt’s form to continue provided he can handle the step up in distance on Saturday.

The Roughie

Paying a huge $41.00 at bookmaker.com.au, Tommy Wong-trained colt Humble Power is our outside pick to challenge the favourites this weekend.

He beat a number of more highly rated runners in the NIB Handicap at Newcastle on March 21 and if he can reproduce that sort of form he will be near the front of the field at the business end of the race.

Will Flying Snitzel do as we expect and win on Saturday? Or are you backing a horse at longer odds? Whoever you pick, be sure to bet with bookmaker.com.au to get the best odds.
