Currently paying $1.85 at, the Gai Waterhouse star opened above $2.00 yesterday but shortened considerably following the sad passing of Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker who stood as a key challenger for the event.

The Greg Eurell-trained mare collapsed and died yesterday at Eurell’s Cranbourne stables following a routine vet treatment.

Pinker Pinker’s sad death has left More Joyous with minimal contenders for the $400,000 race and she looks hard to back against after impressing with a first-up win in the Canterbury Stakes two weeks ago.

The More Than Ready mare has had a highly successful career to date, winning 16 of 23 starts including five at Group 1 level.

She won the Queen Of The Turf Stakes last year and King’s Rose ($4.00) is the most likely contender to prevent her going back to back in 2012.

Trained by Peter Moody, the winner of eight of 19 starts showed improvement on a Newmarket Handicap eighth when she finished third in the Coolmore Classic two weeks ago.

The winner of Coolmore Classic, Ofcourseican, provides value for the punters at $12.00 and is chasing a third consecutive victory after also winning the Liverpool City Cup at Warwick Farm on March 10.

Last year’s Myer Classic winner Hurtle Myrtle is currently third favourite ($9.00) but with the track expected to be firm, trainer Matthew Smith is concerned conditions may not suit the five-year-old.

“She just doesn’t seem to like firm tracks. Some horses don’t,” Smith said.

“It’s probably got to do with her action and the way she gallops. She definitely goes better with the cut out of the track.”

Other horses set to run in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes include Coolmore fourth-place getter Yosei ($14.00), Millie Fox Stakes winner Red Tracer ($15.00) and long-shot outsider Miss Keepsake ($61.00).
