Cellabrations HKJC Stakes 2012 Odds – Golden Slipper Day Betting

In a cracking handicap to bring Golden Slipper Day to an end on Saturday, Ron Quinton’s smart mare Crafty Irna has opened favourite to win the 2012 Cellabrations HKJC Stakes at Rosehill.

Lamasery and Crafty Irna

Crafty Irna has opened favourite to win the 2012 HKJC Stakes on Golden Slipper Day

Due to jump at 5:10pm as Rosehill Gardens Race 9 the $125,000 Group 3 Cellarbrations HKJC Stakes (2000m), also known as the Neville Sellwood Stakes, is shaping up as a top clash between 14 gallopers.

Of those 14 five are under $10 in the HKJC Stakes odds at bookmaker.com.au Crafty Irna the clear $3.80 favourite.

The Starcraft four-year-old has been in excellent form this autumn, her most recent effort behind a second to Fibrillation in the Group 3 Epona Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill last Saturday.

While on the short back-up Crafty Irna will certainly appreciate getting up to the 2000-metres on Saturday at the track, and from her ideal barrier two draw could take some beating as she gets in on the 54kg minimum.

The other single-figure chances in the 2012 HKJC Stakes odds are then:

  • #13 Western Symbol ($5.50 bookmaker.com.au) – Two last start winners in this race for Gai Waterhouse, the other being $34 roughie Charing Cross, High Chaparral five-year-old Western Symbol enjoyed a first-up win over 1500m at Hawkesbury and has good form over more distance – Distance Will Suit But Not Quite There
  • #2 Extra Zero ($7.50 bookmaker.com.au) – David Hayes’ gelding is another last start winner having won the Albury Gold Cup over this distance (2000m) on March 23, carry 56kg but can handle giving two kilos away as they drop 2kg from last start- Good Win Last Start Similar Run They Win Here
  • #5 Maules Creek ($8 bookmaker.com.au) – John Thompson-trained four-year-old comes off a good win over this distance having won the Listed Randwick City Stakes, before that they ran a close third to Praecido in the Parramatta Cup at Rosehill, would prefer it wet but has won this summer at the track on a Good (3) – Best Upset Chance
  • #11 Izababe ($9 bookmaker.com.au) – Peter Nestor’s country cups champ comes off a Wellington Cup win over 1700m, hasn’t seen the distance and this is a different class of horse – Sack Me

Other horses at longer odd through bookmaker.com.au that have claims to cause an upset result in the last on Saturday at juicy odds include Bede Murray’s Albury Gold Cup fourth placed World Wide ($11), the Paul Perry-trained Southern Skye ($15) who ran second in the Sky High Stakes at Rosehill over 1900m last start, and Chris Waller’s hit-and-miss seven-year-old Beijing Boy ($14).
