Bowman Happy With Streama in Vinery Stud Stakes 2012

Ace Sydney hoop Hugh Bowman may be facing the best filly getting around in Mosheen on Saturday, but he believes that with conditions to suit his mount Streama has what it takes to score an upset 2012 Vinery Stud Stakes result.

Hugh Bowman is looking forward to taking on Mosheen in the 2012 Vinery Stud Stakes

A small eight-filly field of three-year-olds were accepted for this year’s edition of the $400,000 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), which is set to run as Rosehill Race 3 on Golden Slipper Day at 1:05pm.

Topping the Vinery Stud Stakes betting markets at an odds-on price of $1.50 is Robert Smerdon’s triple Group 1 winner Mosheen.

The form around Mosheen really is second to none as she comes off a successful Australian Guineas – Randwick Guineas winning double where the daughter of Fastnet Rock got the better of the boys both times.

She is proven over the 2000-metres and drops back to her own kind on Saturday, making Mosheen the definite one to beat in the Vinery.

Sydney premiership leading jockey Bowman, however, doesn’t believe the might Mosheen is unbeatable, especially as she sees Rosehill for the first time since her second to Sepoy in last year’s Golden Slipper exactly 12 months ago.

Occupying the second line of Vinery Stud Stakes betting at is Bowman’s ride Streama, the Guy Walter-trained Group 1 Flight Stakes winner paying $2.90 to upset the favourite.

She may be going up to the 2000-metres for the first time, but Streama should get a gun run from barrier three making her a definite danger to Mosheen.

“It (the 2000m) is a query but I’m confident she will run really well,” Bowman said.

“I’m not sure how I’ll ride her yet but I’m very mindful she was found wanting up on the pace the other day and I’m very mindful she’s going to be over 2000 metres for the first time.

“We’re going to have to work things out with that in mind.”

Streama raced at Rosehill for the first time last time out and was slightly disappointing running three lengths away fifth to Ofcourseican in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).

But Bowman, the only jockey to ever ride Streama under race conditions, is willing to forgive that run and has warned punters not to ignore Streama on Saturday.

“I must admit I was a bit disappointed at first the other day after the Coolmore, I really thought that was the race for her,” Bowman said.

“But as it turns out the track was playing opposite to how I rode her that day and that’s no fault of hers.

“I thought she sustained a gallop right to the line and the only ones to beat her were Group One performers.

“I think she was far from disgraced and with all due respect to Mosheen, I’m looking forward to taking her on.”

If Streama races up to her best I’m confident we can beat Mosheen.

“But I have a lot of respect for Mosheen.

“She’s a triple Group One winner, an outstanding filly and deserves to be favourite.”

Whether it is the favourite Mosheen, Bowman’s ride Streama or one of the juicy double-figure roughies you are tipping to win the Vinery Stud Stakes this year – is where you need to be.
