Waller Dominates 2012 George Ryder Stakes Field

Sydney premiership winning trainer Chris Waller will launch a four pronged attack on the George Ryder Stakes 2012 at Rosehill’s Golden Slipper Day this Saturday as he looks to go back-to-back in the autumn weight-for-age feature.

Chris Waller has four chances in the 2012 George Ryder Stakes on Saturday

Due to jump at 4:35pm as Rosehill Race 8 of 9 on the bumper all Group race card for Saturday, the $400,000 Group 1 The Daily Telegraph George Ryder Stakes (1500m) has drawn a full field of 17 gallopers this year.

Of those 17 Waller will saddle up four including defending champion Rangirangdoo in barrier 10 with Corey Brown in the saddle.

The popular but injury-prone seven-year-old looks to be enjoying a form revival this season having run a good fourth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm before their devastatingly close second to Manighar in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes over 2000-metres at Rosehill last start.

Brown rode Rangirangdoo to his 2011 George Ryder Stakes win, and partnered up with them for the first time since in the Ranvet.

Waller’s other runners are then Canterbury Stakes third placed Metal Bender (barrier three), reigning Emirates Stakes winner Albert The Fat (barrier two) and rising nine-year-old Danleigh (barrier eight) coming off a Chipping Norton Stakes second.

Along with Rangirangdoo last year’s George Ryder Stakes runner-up Love Conquers All is also back in 2012, the Hawkes-trained champ in barrier nine with Jim Cassidy to ride.

To wear the No. 1 saddlecloth in the George Ryder Stakes field on Saturday is Stephen Mckee’s Kiwi galloper King Mufhasa.

Drawn nicely in gate seven with Nash Rawiller to ride, the Pentire seven-year-old has been in blistering form this time in running a good first-up second in the Group 1 Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m) back home in NZ before their victory over Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield back on February 25.

Along with King Mufhasa two other last-start winners are engaged in the middle-distance clash with fellow New Zealand-trained He’s Remarkable coming off a first-up victory in the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m) and Gai Waterhouse’s impressive Encosta De Lago colt Niagara who won the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) by an easy three and a half lengths last Saturday.

Four-year-old He’s Remarkable is out for their maiden Group 1 title after the Railway Stakes victory in Perth was taken off them last November upon protest, and they will jump from the ideal barrier six draw with Craig Williams to ride.

Three-year-old Niagara on the other hand has drawn wide in gate 16, Tommy Berry to take the mount on the youngster as they seek back-to-back wins at the track and distance.

It is going to be a wide-open George Ryder Stakes betting market this year with plenty of other live-wire chances including last year’s Cox Plate and Mackinnon Stakes third placegetter Rekindled Interest, dual Group 1 winner Sincero, Rob Heathcote’s Oakleigh Plate champ Woorim, the Grahame Begg-trained Epsom Handicap winner Secret Admirer who ran a good second in the Coolmore Classic last start, and the Ron Quinton-trained Monton.

Many of the George Ryder Stakes horses are vying for a shot at the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on April 21.
