Queen Of the Turf 2012 Stop for Doncaster Hopeful

Greg Eurell-trained mare Pinker Pinker gets a chance to get her Doncaster hopes back on track this weekened when she contests the 2012 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

The four-year-old shot to fame last year when winning the prestigious Cox Plate at Moonee Valley but after a promising second to King Mufhasain the Futurity Stakes this year, she produced a disappointing effort to run sixth in an eight-horse field in the Chipping Norton Stakes.

Pinker Pinker is out to restart her autumn campaign this Saturday

With the prestigious Doncaster Mile always the key race on Pinker Pinker’s Autumn agenda, Eurell was forced to reassess her schedule following the disappointing Chipping Norton run.

The original plan was to contest the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and this week’s feature BMW (2400m) but after the Chipping Norton failure Eurell decided to give her an easier program and at 1500 metres, the Queen Of The Turf is an ideal Doncaster lead up.

Another bonus of running in the Queen Of The Turf instead of the BMW is it has attracted lesser quality opposition, giving her a chance to regroup before the glamour Doncaster event.

Eurell said the plan was to find races that would allow her the best opportunities for victory.

“We didn’t want to make this campaign too arduous,” he said.

“We just wanted to keep it as simple as we could before focusing again on the spring.”

Despite not having the profile of the BMW, the Queen Of The Turf will be no easy race for the Cox Plate Champion as she will go up against the likes of five-time Group 1 winner More Joyous, Coolmore Classic Winner Ofcourseican and runner-up in that race Secret Admirer.

Eurell was defensive of his star mare’s Chipping Norton run, suggesting she should be forgiven for the one-off failure and that she would be ready to return to top form this Saturday.

“It was something she has never had to do before and a lot of things didn’t go her way in that race,” Eurell said.

“We have regrouped with her and we are ready to go again.

The Queen Of The Turf Stakes is one of five Group 1 races on a nine-race card at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.
