Nominations Released for 2012 Sebring Stakes

A total of 21 horse have been nominated for the 2012 Sebring Stakes (1100m) which will take place as part on all-Group card at Sydney’s famous Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday.

A Group 3 level race, the $125,000 sprint has attracted some quality entries with the large group of nominations vying for 14 available spots.

Headling the group is Peter Snowden-trained gelding Pinwheel who has 10 wins from 28 starts and has collected over $800,000 in prize money.

A son of Lonhro and a two-time winner at Group level, the six-year-old will be racing for the first time since finishing a disappointing twelfth in the Emirates Stakes last November.

Another Group-level winner included in nominations is Newmarket runner Temple Of Boom who is coming off a mid-field finish in the prestigious Group 1 sprint.

A born sprinter, the Tony Gollan-trained gelding has won nine races from 27 starts with all coming over distances between 900 and 1200 metres.

Out to avenge a horrible 2012 start is the Joseph Pride-trained gelding News Alert.

After finishing 2011 with victory in the McGrath Razor Sharp Handicap, the seven-year-old has had three starts in 2012 and has finished as last horse past the post on two occasions.

Winter King will be backing up seven days after jockey Michael Walker rode him in highly surprising fashion to finish dead last in the Challenge Stakes on Saturday.

Walker had the outside chance charge out of the blocks and go all guns blazing which saw the five-year-old run out of puff and eventually finish 10 lengths behind winner Rain Affair.

Also included in nominations for the 2012 Sebring Stakes are Newmarket runner Master of Design and well-travelled gelding Kenny’s World.
